Centennial Committee

St. Paul's will be celebrating it's 100th birthday during 2008.  The committee that has been working on developing the celebration consists of David Ahlrichs, Diane Vavak, Melvin and Margaret Berner, Delmer and Jean Zinnel, Mervin and Rachel Berg, Clayton and Linda Layman, Pastor Jim and Elmer and Jean Prescott.

The preparations that we have made to date are:

1. The theme of 2008 will be "St. Paul's, Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow"

2. The theme song we will be singing quite often is "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow"

3. Fellowship Sundays during January through August, we will be hosting stories of the past.  Some will be told up in the sanctuary after church, some will be told down in the fellowship hall during the coffee time.  Clayton and David will be contacting members to share their stories.

4. Our celebration weekend will be September 20 and 21.  Saturday afternoon and evening we will be celebrating with a catered meal and banquet.  We will having special music and the program will center around stories from Pastors that have served our congregation, or in some cases their widows, and sons and daughters of our church that have gone on to become pastors.  Sunday we will be celebrating with a special church service and communion followed by a brunch.  For these two days we would hope all of you would invite family and friends of the past to join us.  More activates will be developed later for this weekend.

5. The history book and picture book combination has been written, rewritten, and rewritten and off to the printers.  Thanks to Connie Pagel and Diane Decker for organizing all of the pictures, and to Linda Lyman and her committee for developing the history book.  I think you are really going to like this as a memento.

6. Speaking of mementos, we have developed and produced a special Christmas ornament that will be for sale beginning at the WELCA cookie  walk and all during next year.  It will depict our church and signify the anniversary dates.  Thanks to Tim and Diane Vavak for developing this for us.

7. We are developing a special banner to be on display all  during 2008 here in the sanctuary as a constant reminder of our history.  Thanks to Marilyn Collins for heading up that project.

8. The quilting ladies have taken on the project of taking the family pictures from the yearbook and developing quilt banners to be displayed in the fellowship hall downstairs.  This should be a very nice display and will take one great deal of work but something we can enjoy for a long time.

As you can see, there are many people involved and there will need to be a lot more as the year develops.  We hope all will help as you are asked as we try to make this a special celebration.  The Men's group and the WELCA have agreed to underwrite part of the funding to put on the event.  But the main thing is that everyone gets involved as we celebrate the first 100 years of St. Paul's.
